Hey guys, getting my HAF 922 in the mail tomorrow.
Some of you might know, this is my first build. I'd like to have the bare metal parts of the HAF painted flat black, but I'm not sure how to do so, and what tools I'll need. I have read multiple tutorials, but I need specific HAF 922 direction as this is my first time. Also, I'd like to swap out the side grill for an acyrllic window. (less dust). Any help on the paint dilemma? |

Here is the best (in my opinion) thread for case painting.
To take the case apart, for easier painting, you'll want a rivet gun, and 1/4 inch aluminium rivets, I'm sure. (I'm not completely sure on the rivet size, I'd double check first). Do make sure you get the aluminium ones, though, otherwise you'll have a hard time getting them in and out. For reference, this video should tell you how to install a case window: Also, I want to see pictures of the mod(s) when they're finished, I do love mods. ![]() If I may... I'd like to recommend that you paint the HAF more than one colour inside; painting the PCI slots, etc., with a colour that matches your motherboards colour scheme, red and black, for example. It looks really, really good if done right, and is a little less boring, in my opinion.

Or you can do what I did and just take all the plastic off down to the case and not drill out the rivets and paint it. The plastic in the front is held on by a couple of screws on each side and the plastic on the top is held on by some clips that can be relased from the top underside of the case. Remove the HDD cages along with the plastic clips for the 5" bays and you are down to the bare bones of the case. I blue taped the outside along with some of the trim that was already painted black. Primer the inside first then put on your black spray. You should let it dry for a good 48 hours before putting it bakc together. Look at Hav Eny's case mod thread as he has some great shots of the case torn apart along with making the window. Here You can see my thread for my outcome of my painting that I think turned out ok. Here Hope that helps some Chad

Thanks triggs - and look at triggs log for multi-color theme - his red/black combo looks really good. For teardown, I cheated a little and only removed the bottom drive bays (8-rivets total) to make it easier to work on that tighter area in the bottom. I cheated even further by actually using a light sandblasting to prep all the inside surfaces but that is because I have a local shop that charges a time rate to use their equipment. (EDIT: Sandblasted because I prepped my case for powder coating - not painting)
As for the side window, there is a side window version of the HAF922 but you can't get it in NA. One thing I did spot on their site one day though is an optional side panel for the Storm Sniper which looks to be the exact same dimensions as the 922 side panel but I haven't confirmed this yet (that and the side panel isn't on their store yet - just on the products page). The links triggs provided to the 932/922 owners thread is a good place to check stuff out too - lots of different people with your case doing various modifications
