Default [My First Case Mod: Project Blackout] CM 690 Case Mod

Alright... It's not my greatest rig, but I decided to buy a new Coolermaster 690 Case for my sleeper which has been residing in an old broken down, and beaten up Toshiba Case. As I post this I have already started (Forgot to start the post before getting my materials) but I'm not too far in.

The Specs
  • Abit Fatal1ty Motherboard
  • AMD Athlon X2 5200
  • Nvidia 8800GTS
  • 2 GB Patriot Ram
  • 400 GB Maxtor Hard Drive
  • Spare DVD Drive
  • Cheapy PCI Wireless N Card

I'm heavily considering buying new hardware for this and donating this shtuff to a friend or folding with it w/e. We'll see how it pans out.

The Plan
  • Black Paint - Inside and Out Using this guide
  • Fill the thing with Black 120mm Case Fans and do my own custom blue LED lighting (I have an Idea for the front I will end up testing, but am not sure how I wanna do the rest.)
  • Custom Fan power assembly for the door - I want to be able to power my two case fans on the door simply by putting the door on. I do not want to have to plug in or unplug anything to or from the motherboard when putting on or removing my door. I'm looking at Molex, Tyco, 3M, and Phoenix Contact for sorts of blind mate connectors to do the job)
  • Wire Routing - Full cable mod to route all wires as clean as possible. This includes lengthening and sleeving using black Heat Shrink and expandable nylon sleeving.
  • Possibly adding a window (Haven't Decided If I actually wanna do this because I'll need to buy some tools I don't have.)
  • Remove the circle Bull***** from behind the front and top mesh panels. (All you guys familiar with the 690's know what I'm talking about. Although it produces a pretty cool effect with blue LED Case fans, I wanna try something else so I can be a little different.) {Drawings to come}

What I've started
  • Priming and wet sanding of the case and inside of doors. (1 coat down, 1 coat to go - Then paint.)
  • Cutting, Splicing, Tinning and Heat Shrinking Case fan Leads for wire and fan mod.
  • Cut out circle BS from front panel (Got the top to go)

I'll be posting pictures of what I have done so far, and drawings for planning what is to come later on tonight (Or at least over the next couple of days )

Edit: Here Are picture of the primed case, ready for the second coat of primer..

Update 10/21/09: Yesterday I finished wet sanding on the second coat of primer and put down two coats of paint on it. I will post pictures later on tonight and have another update once clear coat goes on.

Alright. The parts are back in and I got plenty of pictures to put up on photobucket detailing quite a bit of what I did. There is still more to be done - Lighting and my blind-mate door fan power assembly.
