PolymorphiX_v2 - Day 02 - frame base cuts and braze-welds begin

set up the chop saw to cut the alu down

rough cuts of the base frame parts

after filing and clean-up

test fits

front rail, pic from back looking forward. saves that whole cut out business for the switches like in v1

center-punched for switch drill-outs

set up the press with a 1/2" bit and alu tap fluid

luckily I caught my mistake before drilling! 1/2" aint the bit, 5/8" holesaw is right. fixed.

drilled out

test fit. hex bolts will need a shave on two opposing faces, as they dont fit inside the channel (off by like 1/32")

scuffed the join points with a stainless steel wire brush



cleaned my beefy clamp with AI-70% to get rid of some of the steel slag and crud from steel welding

clean

set up a braze-weld station

heated the joint for like 15 mins and no matter what I did, the stick wouldnt flow

switched from Propane to MAPP which burns hotter, but still used the new hosed torch
no dice

switched to my original torch

that f-er cooked nice

realized that I wasnt jacking open the valve on the hosed torch enough.

was able to cook the second side of this weld with Propane and the hosed torch, just needed to open her up and not be afraid

that jammer

set up the other two pieces of rail and cooked and welded
for some reason it wasnt taking well and when I thought I had it welded, I let it cool, and when removing it from the clamp, it cracked

probably an oxidation/unclean issue and not enough heat

at this point it was getting cold and late, so I packed it in

tomr will be warmer and I can start earlier, so I will attack all this braze-weld-torch-fire-cook stuff tomr afternoon
