Default Teh Beast

Hey guys,

I'm a 3D animator and am in need of nothing less than a supercomputer. I have an idea for a case that would rule VERY hard but I really need some help to bring this together.

Attached are concept renders of the case. I've never built something like this from scratch but I do believe it is completely doable.

did you create these renders in C4D?
Of course it's feasible, nothing's impossible as you know.
but why would you need 2 power supply units? Wouldn't a kilowatt PSU suffice for your needs?

I'm actually a 3D Studio Max guy. I'm using mental ray as my renderer. Mental ray is used in a lot of the 3D programs like Max and Maya, maybe C4D too.

I wanted to future proof the rig. I'd really like to get four Fermi based cards in it and theres no telling how much power they will use. It'd be easy to make a blank backplate if I ended up only using one PSU.

I need to add the actual liquid cooling stuff to this model. Gotta figure out good places for reservoirs and pumps.

A current GTX 295 has a peak power consumption of 289 Watts. multiply that by four and you have 1,156 Watts...with JUST the graphics cards.

Another 150 - 200 watts for a heavily OCed i7...1,350 watts. Peripherals that include Multiple LC-ing systems and all the drives and highs speed and large fans and Pumps an all dat can approach or exceed 1,600 watts, the max power of largest single PSU I know of. IT is FAR more Cost efficient at that point to just get 2 1000 Watts PSUs and put them beside each other, even if the 1600 could handle it alone.

After all that, It is very possible that the futre "GTX 395" (Im guessing the name you know what I mean) could take considerably MORE power than the current GTX 295s.

How would one go about accurately bending aluminum?

Cutting can be done with a dremel and a template.

I believe you can wet sand aluminum.

Brackets could be bought or made to hold the thing together, maybe. Alternative option would be TIG welding, which I've never done nor do I have the proper tools to do.

I have guides on both paint and sleeving, doesn't look that hard.

Window mod, easy.

Well, either get some sort of bending table for large sheets of aluminum, but I've also seen people using long bars to bend the alumin around. Needless to say 9 out of 10 times the bending table produces better corners.
