Here is the 56K Killer Edition of the Crunch Build Log (finally got with the program and got some image hosting!)

First let me explain a little about this project. Crunch is a 4-mobo Rig specifically built to Fold for OverClock.net. The mobos are mounted one per side of a square wooden case on legs so that the backplane is face straight down. Ventilation is from the open bottom up through a plexiglas panel with a centrally mounted 70 cfm 110 VAC Dayton 120mm fan. As a progressive build a mobo will be added as finds/funds allow. MicroATX with onboard video is the ideal mobo--but for a start Crunch will start folding on a Gigabyte K8NS pro and 3200+ Clawhammer socket 754 ATX board. Not ideal but a good find: fast and cheap.

I began Crunch last year when I had some left-over composite core panels from a boat job--with epoxy I laminated strips of resawn Teak and Wenge onto the core material and then sized it into 4 side panels and a top. Below find some images of the operation

Originally I had planned for 4 microATX dualcores--2 AMD and 2 Intel just to be fair. As of yet there is nothing in the box. Fishie listed a Clawhammer and ATX mobo and it looked like a great deal so I have committed to buy that in the next day or so. I have been looking at so many combos that I have finally gotten a feel for what might be the best setup--but I am unsure if the Asus mobo I have my eye on will OC. Basically I just wanted to get started with the least expenditure--dual core would be awesome--and a solid 805 with a mobo is about $200.

I did order the PSU,buy 2 HDDs (30 gig 7200 rpm WD ATA), try to buy Fishies combo, and buy some Sweet RAM for OCing. By the weekend I will have purchased enough gear to get the ball rolling.

The down side to using the Clawhammer and ATX is size and the need for a Vcard--the upside is that it is a proven OCer and a solid performer with PATA RAID. Not ideal but fast and cheap.

The next mobo should most def be dualcore. Chozart may have a pair of SATA drives available soon and that would be great for SATA RAID on the next rig.

I like the feeling of getting most of the parts from fellow OverClockers.

Nice! I would try to find some blowout on a cheap PCI/Express graphics cards, and get a few depending on how many need one, you don't need to use your graphics card for anything on a folding rig.

I agree with Burn--I need some el cheapo Vcards if I keep using ATX mobos. I really don't want to do taht--but that is how I am starting off..so much for plans!

Appreciate all the kind words--I rarely make furniture for myself--usually for clients--so it is especially nice to do so and get to build 4 rigs at the same time--too much fun (wish I had more money....)

I have come up with some interesting ways to mount the mobos--so I may not need trays after all--have to wait for some hardware to get that going.

Depite all the measuring/drawing until I get some hardware and see how it all fits I won't really know how it's goign to work out. The interior domension is 12.25" wide and 14.5" high--ATX will fit and should leave enough room beside it for the PSU and HDD(s).

Venting the PSU has been playing on my mind--but it will be easier when the PSU is in hand--but somewhow I need to get cool air in and hot air out without robbing the mobos--either ductwork or a seperate container iside the case--or mount the PSUs at the top--which will add to the noise somewhat and let the power cables come out the vent slots--still working it out in my mind--in some ways having the airflow moving from bottom to top is making it more difficult to layout the interior.
