Default Making a Fan Controller

Ok, so i just got in my new TT Armor and i'm ready to put everything together, but i have a problem Last week I bought some cheep Delta fans that are loud as sin!!! That's ok, b/c most of the time I won't be in my room to hear them, but I would like to have the option to turn down the noise on them. So, here is what i was thinking...

I want to make a Fan Controller that uses Slide Pots (i think that'd be pretty cool... better than the turn ones). So, I sorta need some information from you all:

How big a potentiometer do i need? 100, 1k, 10k? Does it even matter? I have the electrical know how to wire these puppies up correctly when i finally get the parts in, but i was just wondering if anyone had any experience w/ home made Fan Controllers.

Thanks

[edit] probably should have specificied that i will be making a tutorial on this... i think it'll look pretty cool as a slide rather than a dial so more people may want to do this

I was thinking I would put Supergood Turtleshapped or Caveman Edition on my new DX19 rig.

IMO slides get dusty inside faster than knobs do and the dust blocks the contacts. Now I'm not saying do not do it (I agree, it would be cool and different), but if you are going to do them like that do not skimp out on quality and get the best you can. Good luck with it, I am interested in seeing it when finished.
