Default How difficult would these cuts be?

If I were to buy a Lian-Li Pc-7077 from newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811112050), it would not come with a side window or top blow holes. the person at this forum made those cuts amazingly and then anodized his case pian black to make it look great. How hard would it be to make similar cuts on the case and have them look nice? The blow holes wouldn't be too hard to do because the cut can be covered up by fan grills, but the edges of the window cut would be exposed. Is there a way to make the edges look less jaggy? What is a good method to cut windows perfectly? Can a dremel be used, or is that too inaccurate?

EDIT: Fixed newegg link, thanks Jester.

Hi!

2 variables.

1) The skill you possess.
2) The quality of tools you use.

Oh! and of course patience.

What tools do you have, or have access to? And, how familiar are you with them?

I am unfamiliar with cutting tools, but I am a very careful and patient person. My father is a mechanic and my step father owned a hardware store, so I have no shortage of tools at all. I will use my step father's drill press and a hole saw to cuf perfect holes in the top panel, but I don't know what to do about the window. I found this stuff in another post. If I could make a fairly decent cut in the side panel and then finish it off with that, do you think it would look ok? Thanks for the reply, BTW.

What you want, ideally, is to map out exactly how you want the panel to be cut out, drill a hole on the edge of the cut line MAKE SURE YOU'RE INSIDE THE SCRAP PART OF THE MATERIAL, then use a nibbler to follow the cut line. As long as you're steady, this is easily the best way to do the job. The only better way is to have the panel cut professionally by someone with an industrial laser cutter, or a water-jet machine.

NOTE: Air powered nibblers are available, and far faster than the manual one linked above, just make sure you have a steady hand & don't rush.

Yes, just make sure that you have a blade with teeth designed to cut the material. You could also go slower or faster on cutting motion. I have tried both.

For slower, drill a set of pilot holes about 1/2" apart, and large enough in diameter to use a pair of quality tin or metal shears (must be sharp and have a clean, consistent meeting of the cutting edges of the blades). These holes should be well within the area to be removed (2"...). This will allow you to feather into the cut line.

Faster. Use a Dremel, or RotoZip. Both have a "compass attachment" (for round holes only). I wouldn;t recommend attempting straight lines with a Dremel unitl you have some practice. Using a guide is helpful, but sometimes hard to attach to the surface firmly due to angles and protrusions.

Whatever you do, tape off the areas that will remain with blue painter's tape.

Sounds like fun!

Easily. Just make sure you use the correct blades for it. I still strongly suggest the nibbler method over a jigsaw. It makes a cleaner edge, and is much more controllable.

Nibbler would be much easier, but he is just going to cover it up with the rubber stuff he linked above, so if you have acess to a nibbler, use that, if you don't, a jigsaw will still do the job just fine.
