Default proper fan installation/?

ok i got an antec ATX case with the vent in the side of it. i have an Antec psu 400w that has dual fans in it. i have a cooler master hsf on the cpu itself. i also have a 8mm fan on the back of the case sucking air out, i have a fan on the side vent sucking out, and one towards the front bottom that is blowing in. when i looked at my temps just in bios no load my cpu was at 50C at peak and im not oced only have my mb set to agressive mode. Is this high for not being overclocked or is my fan setup wrong? any help would be greatly apreciated.

50 C idle is high yes, amd's need to stay under 55 C LOAD

ok here's how fans are supposed to be placed

TOP fans , back(back of case) fans suck OUT (exhaust fans)

SIDE PANEL fans, FRONT fans blow IN (intake fans)

change them to that, so that both side panel fans blow in and the back one blows out

also, use arctic silver 5 heatsink compound on your cpu and your temps will drop significantly

well i bought a brand new cooler master hsf and put it on my cpu, it has teh sliver 5 already on it i believe. i only have one side panel fan but i figured if it was blowing in against the cpu fan then that would be blowing the heat back on it. granted the fan on the side of the case is alot bigger than the little cooler master fan though. the other fan i have is mounted on the front of the case blowing in but it doesnt get that much flow because its on the front of the case.

The case fronts should be vented to help ensure you get adequate flow.

The fan on your CPU should be blowing at it, so if you have your side panel fan bringing in fresh cool air that will get pulled through the CPU HS and make it more efficient. If the HS had some kind of thermal tape on it already then it is not AS5...get yourself a small tube and redo your HS. Make sure to get ALL of the prior paste/tape off the CPU and HS & try not to scratch the HS if you have to resort to scraping it off. Using alcohol, nail polish remover or paint thinner will help but just don't soak it as I don't know if it could damage the mobo if it got on it.

negative on having as5 already on a heatsink....no heatsink comes with as5....

some however do have a thin thermal compound material adhesive type thing -- you need to take that stuff off!!! and then apply as5...

trust me, it will be worth the hassle!

Ok how much of an decrease in temps have been reported with arctic silver 5? where would i get it? I did a bit of fan switching i now have 2 side fans blowing in and the rest i left alone. in the bios it dropped down to 45-46C but in mb monitor its still fluctuating from 48 to 50C. Any other trick with fans i could try?

AS5 should help a good bit on those temps.

would a better heatsink and fan be worth looking into?

I'm using http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/thxpforforin.html with a medium speed Panaflo 92mm fan, which is pretty popular and cools quite well.
