Default Cables?

Blah, was thinking about getting some UV cables, or something of the sort.

problem is, I've never done the wiring on one of my builds before, always had a buddy of mine do it... not that I cant figure it out but..still waiting on some components in the mail etc...

anyway..my setup is

x2 Raptor 150gb drives
x2 8800gtx
x2 cd/dvd drive
x1 Floppy drive
x1 ASUS P5N32-E

what cables do i need to make all the connections? and anyone recommend a certain cable/brand uv/rounded/meshed etc?

embaressing question...haha i so have to learn the wiring...

Are the raptors IDE or SATA?

-The 8800s should both need a 6pin power connector from the PSU
-The CD/dvd drive if IDE will need a rounded IDE connector, and a 4 pin molex connector, if SATA a sata cable and a 4 pin sata power from the PSU
-The floppy will need a floppy cable (smaller than a standard IDE) and a 4 pin molex
-the Motherboard will need a 4 pin (might be a six, not sure what the board uses) power and a 20/24 pin, both of these from the PSU, best way would be to wrap these yourself.

  • Two molex 4-pin or SATA power cables for the Raptors
  • Four 6-pin PCI-e connectors for the GTXs
  • Two more 4-pin Molex for the DVD drives
  • One 4-pin Floppy molex connector for the floppy drive
  • One 24pin connector for the Motherboard, One 8-pin AUX power connector, One 4-pin Molex if your motherboard has it for SLI

Those are the connectors...However, you need a sleeving kit.

I suggest having your friend help you out with sleeving since you have never done it before. It's very easy to do once you know how. Also, what PSU do you have? It may already be sleeved with UV reactive cables.

Finally, to make those cables show, you'll need some UV lights.

I would recommend the UV ones, however all the lights will make the UV reactive sleeving glow somewhat.

You just slip the sleeving over, then a piece of heatshrink and heat it with a heatgun or blowdryer. Very easy stuff. With PSUs, you sometimes have to take the connectors off, which can make it a bit harder.

removing connectors...is it pretty tricky or straight forward?

do you think the kit xioxide sells for uv is a good kit? they are out of stock on other kit.

I've never sleeved a PSU, only standalone cables. Removing connectors with the tools is much easier than removing them without the tools. I linked the Xoxide kits because I really like their prices. www.svc.com also has some great kits, and their shipping speed is unmatched.

It might flake off, if you have time you could take the PSU out, paint one part of a molex connector you don't use and let it dry, then see if it flakes or looks ok.
