Hello, i have a bunch of ideas and one of them is carving out a bands logo in one of my vacant drive bay covers, and then sticking a fan behind it. i just bought a Black and Decker rotary tool with a 150 piece accessory kit, what are some tips and fine tuning the cutting of the metal? i am going to plan it out by tracing and taking measurements but what would be the best way to cut it.

Slowly & carefully!
I very rarely run my cutting tool (not dremel ) @ 100% RPM, as I find I have better control over it this way, also when those cutting disks decide to disintegrate... lower RPM is safer Additionally, drill small holes within the area you've chosen to 'cutout' thus making cutting sorta' like dot-to-dot, you can use alternative attachments to bring (grind) the 'cutout' back to the edge of the lines you originally marked out ![]() Measure twice, cut once & wear protective eyewear! ![]()

I do not think that this can be stressed enough! When those discs either jump or become stuck and shatter, you'll be thankful that your safety glasses allowed you to keep both eyes.
__________________When cutting anything with a dremel (well, mine is a 5 amp craftsman with dremel like attachment) it helps to mask the piece you plan to cut with painters tape and then stencil the cut out on that so the surrounding area doesn't receive nicks and scratches. And use both hands for stability! Once you get into it, you'll use that tool for tons of project around the house! Good investment.

I heard that for cutting lines, instead of cutting down the line, you should "plunge" the disc in, take it out, then work your way down the line. That right? I've only used a dremel for carving in wood, never metal
