you guys can use an electricians' hole punch kit called a Slug Buster to pop out nice, clean holes. much cleaner than hole saws or unibits (i'm an electrician). they don't cost too much.

CD, don't forget a hole on the top-left part of the motherboard tray for the 4- or 8-pin CPU power. it's hard to get a clean hole up there, but it's totally invisible after you put an aftermarket CPU heatsink in there. if your EPS cable isn't long enough (and it isn't), just buy one of these extensions. the connectors will (barely) fit in the dead area between mobo tray and back wall.

also, those front panel wires that are long enough to reach can be extended, even if you aren't a professional sparky. just use a pair of wire strippers and some low voltage butt splice connectors like the UB-I connectors by Ideal. i know they sell them at Lowe's in the electrical section by the telephone jacks and connectors - the Home Depot in my area doesn't carry them anymore.

i went overboard and literally have about 60 wire splices behind my mobo tray. i'll upload some pics later if anyone is interested. i cut holes for my SATA cables and the cables for my optical drives as well. it ended up like this:

this picture is from a couple months ago before i added my Zalman.

i thought about it and thought about it some more... and decided i don't have the energy to make my own tutorial. so i'll just add another pic to CD's if he doesn't mind.

i apparently didn't take many pics when i built my own computer, but this is the back of the 900 i built for my friend. those little red circles you see are the Ideal butt splice connectors i mentioned earlier. i extended all the front panel stuff - USB, power & reset buttons, headphone and mic jacks... this just takes a little time to do. each USB cable has four wires in it. cutting it and splicing some new wire in the middle means you will have to make 8 splices for each USB cable. i think the HD audio cable had 8 or 9 wires in it, so that's another 16-18 splices. it just takes patience. you can use regular phone cable or Cat-5 to extend the wires. i also cut the Molex connectors off all my fans and just spliced them together to keep things simpler in the back.

this pic should be enough to scare off anyone who has never done this sort of thing before the wiring was probably about 80% complete at this point. my friend went against my commandments and did NOT buy a modular power supply, but we were still able to fit all cables and wires behind the motherboard tray.

It's the standard by which all others are measured IMO.
