Default HowTo: Quiet Your PC With Foam For Cheap!

Purpose: Lowering noise output from computer
Materials: Foam, Scissors, Tape (if needed), measurement tools

Recently I've started thinking about bigger, faster, more awesome fans. though these also call for high noise levels. As all of you know a way to fix this is by using a material to insulate the noise. I took a look at some foam online and they can be pretty pricey. anyway I happened to still have the box my Geforce 8800 came in and it included some very nice foam.

After u find some foam dig out these tools, you might need them.

Ok, if you got that far then ur doing great. Now you need to figure out where u should install foam in your case. I don't recommend covering up air vents, fans electrical devices, or anything that might look like it would kill you if you touched it. preferably I would start with the bottom. Take measurements of the width and length and the placement of fans or other obstructing devices. Now its time to CUT!

*hint* cut the length and width of the foam a hair larger than ur measurements so that it fits snug.*

you might even have to cut the ridges off to get the foam to avoid tight areas such as pci cards or fan blades.

once you get it cut out try to put it in place.

well thats basically all you need to do, well to install it. Now find more places to install the foam.

alright now here is what I have so far

Alright, I'm done... for now. well If you have questions or any "anti foam in computer complaints" let them be heard.

I dont think it would have obstructed any kind of airflow... It may have thermally insulated the case, if at all.

I bought a nice kit from xoxide or something.. IT was some nice "spire soundpad" stuff. I got quite a bit of it, which I use to quiet my pump, and to put next to noisy fans. It doesnt have the ridges, but its good sound silencing material. about 1/4" thick.

Default temp

my temperatures seem to be sticking right around normal, no huge increase in temps. If anything maybe a degree or two, and thats mostly the system temp.

Nice suggestion. I like to get my foam from mnpctech.com though because it's fairly cheap and works wonderfully. Just for all of you peeps without foam lying around
