Default Project "BOMB" is taking shape

Hey Fellow members. Almost done modding my sons rig with some basic mods like a blowhole, cfl lights and a custom paintjob it is time to start on a new project. One that i had in mind for a long time.
Ok, this is the idea, Take a old ammo box and create a bomb like device inside. Today i purchased a 1959 ammo box wich can house a mini atx, a minipsu etc.
Beeing i am on a budget it might take a while to complete, but there's no rush.
When i start the build i'll create a worklog so you can see the progress.
Anyways. What i am looking for is a fluid that behaves like mercury but not that toxic. It is for decoration only. Did any of you ever see the movie "bomb away"?
Where a bomb was set off by a mercury filled tube?. Well, i want to replicate that idea but as you can imagine i am not gonna use real mercury wich is highly toxic. If you have any ideas or comments of whatever, throw them at me. Build will probably start within a week

Hmm, what do you mean behaves like mercury? That it should have similar physical properties, appearance? Mercurochrome is a non toxic compound that is similar to mercury... you could also try thimerosal, a preservative that vaccines once used to contain, not sure on the physical properties of that one however, you could try a search...

Well, decided to go all the way and throw in a wc set with a external pump and tubing. There will be some eyecandy left for the case. Found a nice 12v dc pump with enough capicity to cool everything. Ordered two hyperflow led fans to match the overall look and feel. Gonna be one strange rig when i am done with it.

Be sure to not put an actual bomb in the case.

Sweet idea. Sounds like a lot of work though.

Hmm... If you want it to react to temperature or pressure changes like mercury, you could always try isopropyl alcohol? I think that's what they use in modern thermometers. Just add a bit of dye if you want a different color.

You could put a bomb if you work with....sensitive information and don't want anybody nosing around your case....you know, like James Bond's car...

I agree with laboitenoire, if that is the property you are looking for. If you want the appearance of mercury, the silvery look or something, then I suggest you try the stuff I mentioned above.

This rig is gonna be for my youngest son, he is all into military stuff. Got the hardware and will start a worklog as soon as i have the pump and rad. That ammobox is very heavy and stirdy so it will be fun drillin the holes and all. will try to take a pic of the ammobox tomorrow so you can get the basic idea. Just have to finish my boys sig rig wich still needs some flames painted and my sig rig will get a 120 mm blowhole so it's gonna be one busy week.
