I've got some case fans from some old servers (HP and Dell) and was wondering would an AA battery be able to run the fan?
This is purely to test if they work or not The reasoning behind this is that they have strange connectors on them meaning that they wont connect to any 3 pin fan headers. (Some have two pins, others 3 but the connector moulding is not generic).

well a AA is 1.5 volts so if you get 8 then you will have 12 volts so yes it will work... Even one/two might work but the fan will spin very slowly

AA batteries are only 1.5v. Most fans require 4-7v to start up. Try using a 9v battery instead.

The fan connectors dont fit any headers I have. Some fans are two pin, other 3 pin but the mouldings are all non standard.
So I'll cut the connectors off and wire them to the battery to see if they work. Then group 2/3 together and wire them to a standard connector and run them through the headers I have.
