Default Painting and Etching Centurion 5

Hi all! I have an idea to spruce up my case.

1. Rid of blue leds from front panel. What kind of LEDs do I need to place these?

2. I want to etch a drawing onto the window -- is the stock window sufficient for this?

3. I want to paint the interior of the case. Any suggestions on what to do with the tool-less plastic pieces on the HDD cage? How can I prevent operation of these parts from scratching the paint.

Most cases have 3mm leds in them, but you should be able to fit 5mm's in there if you are good with a dremel.

Is a dremel with the appropriate bit inside a depth guide a good method to etch a window? What would be the right bit if this was a good idea.

I's sure it could be done with a dremel and a steady hand. check out their website to see what they recommend.

I would say for etching a good rounded grinding bit. As for inside paint go with rustoleum high performance enamel, but first prime, sand, prime, and sand again. The prime sand cycle makes the surface very smooth and it will prevent scratching. I would recommend sanding it with 500 grit and above.

I found a good guide on etching and the author recommended to get a dremel etcher. They're only about $20 and give much better control. I'll post the link if I can find it here or when I get back home and look in my history.

@kenny: I sure did plan on many paint/sand cycles.

Is it safe to put your mobo down on wood and run it that way while my case is being worked on for a week?

as for the the tool-less plastic pieces on the HDD cage what i did when I painted mine was put take all of the ones I could get out, (pretty simple, just by bending the arm that stops it from going any further just a hair) For the top two on the HDD cage you should be able to work the slider out

and for the rest above the HDD cage where the CD drives just move them all the way to the left and paint right over them. For paint chipping, just wait until the paint is COMPLETELY 100% dry and you will have no problems. At least I didn't here is a pic of mine. (only 1 from my fingernail XD)

too see the whole case just click on the "yay paint!" in my sig

Yeah, wood is an insulator, so nothing will short out on the mobo. Just make sure the desk is clean and you'll be good to go.

As for C5 modding, good luck! These cases have a clean look, but a lot of potential, IMO.

Just an idea, while you have the case stripped apart, you might want to cut some holes in the mobo tray for cable routing, your call tho. I replaced my blue LEDs with red ones to match my color scheme, but green/black would look pretty cool too.

Check out Shifty's 95 cent Centurion Case Mod for more ideas. I cut out my drive covers and fit a 120mm intake fan in there, which dropped my ambient temps a few degrees. Food for thought

Good luck! Subscribed.

Thanks. I saw the 120mm fan between the drive bays. How is that with noise... mounting it to a (relatively) loose piece of metal?

What I did was this: http://www.overclock.net/gallery/sho.../size/big/cat/

Double-sided tape FTW! It's very quiet, and since the fan isn't touching the case, there isn't any vibration. The tape is thick and acts as a vibration absorber.
