This is a general guide that applies to most metals.
![]() Tools -rotary tool(dremel) -polishing compound or jewelers rouge -assortment of polishing wheels or felts I will take you through the steps of how to polish that ugly flat Grey colored metal found on most cases. We will start off with a piece off a PSU,nothing much to look at ugly flay Grey. ![]() I scuffed the surface with 1000 grit wet and dry *note, more time here will yield better results on rough surfaces, this was just for demonstration only and more time could have been spent sanding.* ![]() I chose a small round felt and red Dremel polish,if you have jewelers rouge use red. ![]() I went at the piece applying the polishing compound going over each area about 10 times, I loaded up the felt several times in the polishing compound during this step. ![]() After putting the red on I used a large round felt to remove the polishing compound. At this point you start to see a reflection and the metal starting to brighten up. ![]() ![]() Now its time to use a finer polish, I had some green so I used that. Once again I used a small round felt and went over each area about 10 times, reloading compound as necessary. ![]() I then removed the polish with a large felt, going over each area about 10 times. ![]()

I then used some white jewelers rouge on a small round felt and went at it.
![]() ![]() Ntoe how i held the dremel during this step. I polished the entire thing not using too much rouge and all that was left was to melt some rouge onto a rag and hand polish the swirl marks out. ![]()

Some Mothers all metal polish would be great for a final polish but I don't have any. as you can see a big difference.
![]() ![]() More time could have been spent on this but it was just for demonstration only so have a look at some stuff that has had the necessary time spent to achieve that Chrome look without chroming anything. First off stainless steel very much like chrome, one on left is unpolished. ![]() I/O panel was ugly now she's nice. ![]() Copper is nice to polish too. ![]()

I almost forgot about these items. The mesh was painted and I used paint stripper to get rid of it and polished it to a high luster and the Allen head screws I did up because I couldn't find any chrome ones. Just stuck the screws in the dremel to sand off the black and took them out to polish them. ![]() I bought a couple of polishing pads for the bench grinder, these are going to work great for large parts. ![]() ![]()
