Replace LED on board?

Mmmm! Toast!
|
Anyone every replace the LED on their motherboard? I want to go w/ a red/white theme,but the green status led is glaring at me!

You could, but you'd have to be uber-careful. I really wouldn't recommend it, though.
I replaced the leds on the boards of both my DVD burners, floppy drive and fan controller. Then again, I have a lot of experience with soldering and none of those cost as much as most motherboards, to replace..

I changed the LED in one of my mouses from red to blue. I wouldnt try on mobo though. Too risky.

You always could take a black, non-conductive, paint pen and dab the light with it. Make it stealth.

lol, I was wondering the same thing. I can't stand the green led on my P5N-E SLI. The red led on my XtremeGamer Fatal1ty sound card is annoying as well. I was thinking maybe I could bring it to a professional shop and see if they would do it. You might want to look into that as well.

That would be cool...
I need to replace the LED on a flashlight. I'd assume the process is the same. You'd need a soldering iron and a desoldering braid. Heat up the contacts and use the braid to suck up the solder. Then get your new LED (make sure it's rated the same as the old one) and solder that to the board.
