So I am a bit of a woodworker by passion and I was thinking about making a case out of some exotic woods like Curly Koa, Macassar Ebony, and Curly Box Elder. Do any of you know if this has ever been done or any advise to help me out? Do you guys see any potential problems with heat if I were to use wood?

Well, wood is an insulator so heat would be trapped in the case a lot more. As would dust.
Secondly, the reason a case is metal is so that way if there is a charge buildup in the case it can be dissipated through the ground (case). Give it a shot, but it won't work nearly as well as a metal case.

Yeah wooden cases are becoming quite popular, can't wait to see what you can pull off.

Well it will be a little while until I can get a shop built to work on it. I am in the middle of trying to buy a condo with a garage. If I am able to get the garage I will be setting up a work shop in it for woodworking and knife making. But I might be able to get the basic work done on it off of my deck. Until then I will start picking up some exhibition grade woods to work with. If it does get off the ground I will post a detailed thread about the process. Thanks for you input.

Damn stiffy..spellcheck is your friend!
Wooden cases should be simple enough. Just draw out your motherboard holes and stuff like that and it should be pretty simple. Since it will get hot in there make room for lots of fans...is suggest one or two front 120mm, one side 120mm as intake...and as exhaust one or two rear, and one or two top exhaust

Woot for a sexy wood case. A gorgeous wood case graced the cover of December's Computer Power User magazine. Pick one up at a retailer near you ![]() ![]()
