I think my custom cable sleeving job of bread bag tabs and masking tape look pretty sharp...

Default What size to use for SATA cables?

Hi,
I was just wondering what would be the right size to get if I want to sleeve SATA cables? I don't want to remove the connectors on the end.
I currently have them taped together as one cable.

Will the stuff stretch so I can get it past the connectors? Should I do them individually or together?

thank you

Ever seen the Chinese finger cuffs? The more you stretch them the narrow they get. So when you squish them together, the diameter increases. You will have plenty of room to put the SATA cables through it. It may be necessary to stagger the ends while you thread them through.

Or and here is my try at sleeving. http://www.overclock.net/2390633-post708.html
I did both the electrical tape (on the floppy drive cable) and the mesh sleeve (on the IDE cable).
The sleeve fit easily over the IDE cable.

The only thing I didn’t cover was the ATA power cables. I didn’t se any way to get the connector off. You might be able to get some real big sleeving and stretch it over the connectors.
The easiest way to solve that is to just cut the cable in the middle, put your sleeving and heatshrink on, and then just re-solder the wires together. That way you don't have to stretch out anything to try to get it to fit over the connectors.

Great post, but I'm gonna have a problem I believe. I bought this sleeving kit to put around my psu wires, but didn't get any tools to take off the connectors. Do I just staples to push the wires out? I didn't get the tools because it said it could expand. For the shrink wrap....does it go over the sleeve then you apply heat to keep the sleeve in place?

The pin removal tools depress the clips that hold the pins in place allowing them to be pulled back out of the housing; if you opt to use staples instead (not recommended) then you would use them in the same manner as you would the pin removal tool. I've pulled ATX pins using the pin removal tool and it is tough; so I can only imaging what it would be like using staples.

I ordered that Sunbeam tool kit a while back- the ATX pin remover broke on me so I had to end up ordering another one from FrozenCPU (was much stronger). Definitely get a setup, you won't regret it. I can't tell you how many times I've used mine.
