Default toggle switches for stealthed drives

I was thinking of stealthing my DVD drives, and I was going to get some momentary toggle switches and try to hook them up to the DVD drive switches for fun.

The idea was to mount the toggle switches on top of my comp. and be able to open the drives with them.

I am figuring that I would have to open the drive, make a hole in it, run wire through the hole, and solder some wires to the existing connections inside...Anyone know if this is feasible or easily done?

I've never tried such a project, but the logic is correct, its just a simple momentary circuit those switches are completing.

sounds hXc though, post some picks when you do!

Awesome, thats what I was planning to do. Seems pretty easy to do unless I screw up the soldering.
Thanks for the link.

the type of switch does not determine the number of contacts (poles). generally lighted switches has 3 poles (the light needs its own ground), whether they are push or toggle.

it would be a waste for a momentary switch (which is what you need) to be lighted because the light would only be on when you activate the switch, which as the name applies, would only be momentary

Not a vandal switch. The LED ring on the Vandal is connected to an independent 3.3V source. You can wire up the vandal's LED to light whenever there's activity in the optical drive (just like the regular LED on it).
