I'm experiencing a bit of a weird problem with my dremel tool. I am cutting out the side of a lian li alum case so I could install a radiator and an outtake fan. I was about a quarter of the way into the cutting with a dremel/reinforced wheel and the dremel started getting hot. I waited a few secs, tried again, then after about 20 secs, the motor just stopped working. I pulled it apart, cleaned it, plugged it in, turned on for a split second and then died again. I then went to menards, purchased a new one (both are 35k rpm wired models) and guess what?? The second one burnt out as well! Should I just skip the idea of using a dremel for case mods?

Is this a new or older Dremel? I had to replace the motor contacts on mine recently. I had to unscrew two caps and replace a metal slug.
EDIT: N/M, you tried two Dremels....

I don't know what you are doing but I use a Dremel XPR400 on almost a daily basis and have been for 2 years, still going strong. Are you using a genuine Dremel or a copy cat?

lol, i had this happen actually last night with a dremel I was using on my silverstone tj07 , aluminum case as well. It would get real hot after a few minutes of use and a few times would start smoking so I just shut off and let cool down. I guess just watch the amount of pressure you are using with it and hopefully you won't have another one burn out on you

Yep those are the cutoff wheels I was using. Took me about 3hrs to do the cuts you would think would only take 30mins to do...after all the sitting and cooling it had to do in between
