I've been trying to figure out a good way to do this. I know you can snatch templates for popular radiators off the net but how would I attach said template to the top of the case so I can make the necessary cuts?

You could use Blue Painters Tape to cover the entire surface, then take the measurements and transfer them (drawing) onto the taped surface.
Another way is to see of you can download a to-scale technical image, then tape that to the surface. Note: I would still protect the entire surface that is being cut with the Blue Tape.
