Default Intriguing Idea

Ok an idea occured to me last night, which i thought might be pretty cool to do for a case mod.

So cases are pretty boring to look at really, I mean they just sit there and look pretty. Which is all well and good but not exactly exciting.

So what if they could do something? what would it do?

Well my thought is to have it kind of fold out when you turn it on.

I mean this thread is more just to see what people would think to the idea of having their case move and stuff. I have an idea about what i could do for one which i may draw up and put up on here later.

Anyway opinions would be appreciated.

I would like mine to do household chores...

But that aside, I personally am fine with the way cases are.. I don't look at it much anyways

The 'folding out' idea is nice though. I just wonder what influence it might have on temps and such.

The idea is a pretty cool one.
With Chozart's concern wondering what inluence it would have on temps I think it could actually lower them if done correctly. How I'm imagining this is that the fold out thing kinda would be like a air duct (hood scoop like idea) and in that case if you had good exhaust too on it then it could work well.
Pretty cool idea and if you can pull it off it would be pretty sweet to see.

Maybe have the front all mesh and have a panel that when turned on will fold out to the sides leaving the mesh open to suck in air.

You could have something like above.. such as on the TT Armor, Antec 900, and CM Stacker with all mesh fronts. You could have flaps on the front that open when the computer turns off

but then how would it fold back up?

I have returned with promised drawings. Firstly as i see it there are really two ways that you could go with a moving case, either it moves to provide itself better cooling, or it moves to make itself look better.

The first picture is a drawing for something i have been planning for a while, not difficult to do really but still may look alright.

Second is a design that got me thinking about the whole idea of moving cases. The main idea being that it would look like a simple black box, maybe with a few lines to hide the split marks, which when you turen it on will kind of open out to show the computer.

Thanks for the comments guys, the how to get it to open and close has been something of a conundrum to me, I don't know if there is anyway that you cna make the computer do it as part of the start up and shut down process, but if not it might just be to open would be when you press the power button and to close it would be a different button.

First time every trying Sketch Up so it sucks but this is my idea in my head kinda made as best as I could. Where it is see through is where I'm thinking mesh or something idk. I'm probably forgetting something that makes it so this doesn't work but this is my idea.

oh and the fan is attached to the pole so that it can move in and out too.

Monty I see what you mean, and it might look good having an 'Air scoop' kind of pop out of your case.

I was just thinking bigger is all .

In all honesty folding out wouldn't be that hard depending on whats on it. You take one of these fan motors from a 120 mm fan OR an optical drive and you should be able to rig it up to move something and stop then move it back upon losing power. One thought I had as a joke would be to make your computer have motorized feet and rock back and forth as you played. :-) could scare the s*** out of some people the first time they see a hydraulic computer.
