Default Case Fan Mods

So when somebody does a fan mod for a case, what size of a hole do they drill for the screws (on the actual case), and how do the screws go in? Also, what kind of screws are they (self threading, self tapping, etc. etc.). I've never known how people do this, and was wondering if I could find out.

As far as the screw size, just make them a little bit smaller than the holes in the fans.

ya know those concrete drill bits you see? Take the largest one you can and put it up to the top rear of the case and drill into it. If you feel something give way and your speaking chineese afterwards, thats a good thing. In all honesty you could probably get away with using a self tightening screw to drill the holes for you and continue into the fan.

I don't know what you mean.

And AMD/NVIDIA, would I just be able to use the screws that came with the fan and screw it in with the holes I just drilled? OR do I need to thread the hole? I'd also like to know what drill size people use.

usually the case is between the screw, and the fan. the screws that come with the fan are used, they will "tap" the plastic in the fan holes. or you can get different screws for different configs. mnpctech.com sells fan grommets, various self tapping screws, etc

Just match the bit size of the drill to be a little bit smaller than the smallest part of the screw.

Fan screws tend to be about 4-5mm so just try a 5mm drill bit first, if it too small use a bigger drill.

So I don't need to thread the holes I drilled in the case?

No you dont, the screws that come with fans are self tapping, they self tap themselves into the plastic of the fan.
