Default Cutting question

how to do "precise" cuts on side panel? ive seen some people with like really short rounded corners.. wonder how they did it... im planning on modding my rocketfish case.. but thigns im drawing has a short corner... so jigsaw wouldnt do the job.

also, where to get a 4.5" hole saw good for case modding?

you can get a hole saw at almost any hardware store, or home depot, or lowes etc. just make sure you get a "bi-metal" one, and not one that is for wood only. You should also get an arbor for it, with the pilot bit if youre going to cut the larger sizes like 4.5" for 120mm fans. The smaller size hole saws dont need the winged arbor since the torque on those diameters is not that bad. I picked up a 5 holesaw kit (Rigid) from home depot which came with a pilot bit and collars, with saws from 7/8 to 2.25 ", then i got separately a few Rigid saws for fans (3,3.5,4.5 inches) and good arbor.

rigid holesaw kit was around $20
individual holesaws were about $15 each
good quality arbor $12

As far as tight corners, you could always use a small hole saw or drill bits for metal, half inch and smaller to cut the corner curves, then continue cutting the straight lines with a dremel or a jig saw. I have the multisaw attachment for my dremel, which is a jigsaw, but there is only so tight you can turn corners, so small holesaws or a drill bit will help.

hope that helps

yes, hole saws are the way to go for cutting circles, arcs, and holes for fans. a dremel tool also comes in handy for some detail work.

For some curves just use a drill bit of size int he corner, this will give you the corner. Then just jigsaw into the circle, this gives a clean curve without having to use the jigsaw int eh corner at all.

damn. i dont know if the hole saw i got last time was good or not. it was like $35 or something. i drilled a hole in the middle for the middle bit to go in.. then the freakin teeth from the saw grabbed onto whatever i was cutting and either turned the thing im cutting or the drill it self.. lol.. either hurt my waist by the piece turning and hitting me or the drill turning and hurting my wrist >.< +rep for the info!

you can get all these things (hole saw arbors, drill bits, etc etc) for any size drill drive, 3/8" and 1/2 being the most common, most stores will stock the same parts for both drive sizes. My drill is 3/8 and I didnt have a problem getting what I needed. good luck.
