I plan on building my own acrylic case but am wondering do you need a metal mobo tray or acrylic with screw holes in it fine?

You don't "need" a metal mobo tray, but if you want a removable one this would be your best bet.
If you want to build your own, this would help alot. Hope this helps!

go to a PC recycler place or somewhere that has old ass PCs and get everything for 10 dollars. then cut out the mobo tray and parts you need.

thread your standoffs into the acryllic tray. using a metal tray defeats the purpose of an acryllic case.
if you want a removable tray, cut one out of acryllic
