Default Power switch mod

Hey. I was wondering if anyone had made a case mod where they used a key to turn on a pc, much like a car.

im on it, found the switch, just need it painted.

You have to found which wire is your IN and wich wire is your out ON START, not run or acc cause you only need a pulse too start your PC.

pic coming soon.

im doing something similar for my daughters computer, wiring in another momentary switch to both the main power and the reset switches, but hiding them in the back of the the case so she cant reset/sleep/shutoff/turn on the pc without holding the correct back switch closed, while pressing the normal front ones. or i may just put spst toggles back there that kill the front buttons unless they are set on.

I havent dona a car key but I assume its similar, momentary and all

You simply have to attach the wires to the "Crank" circuit which will generate an intermittent circuit as does the case switch.
Manufactures like Standard or General make various generic Ignition Switches.
Here are some marine styles I found with a search...
http://www.iboats.com/Ignition_Start...view_id.216622

Or...
http://motors.shop.ebay.com/items/__...newuZ1QQ_sopZ1
like...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVE...3286.m20.l1116
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVE...m170220058881&
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVE...m180243498573&

Tons of places online to find "Universal Ignition Switch" and some Automotive Parts stores may even have them on the shelf usually in the brands I mentioned.

And then you could go even further and wire up some relays to the Accessory and On contacts and wire that up to lighting and or fans. Wicked stuff.

I'll have to try that one of these days.

What do you mean you only need a pulse? I am in the process of finding a single switch that I can use for both power on and restarting the computer.

I tested both my current case's power on and reset buttons and found that as long as you have the switch pushed in, the circuit is constantly closed.

make it so that when you turn it to ON it turns on the computer and when you turn it to START it reboots.

ON position in a standard car ignition isnt momentary, its ON, so I dunno if that will work since reset and power in a pc are both momentary switched
