Default How To: Mod a 120mm Blow Hole

Theres probably a ton of guides out there already showing this but I thought hey, it's only half an hours work so why not do it!

How To: Mod a 120mm Blow Hole

Tools Needed:
  • Drill with M4 or M5 bit
  • 114mm Hole Saw (or Dremel but thats naff and takes ages )
  • Wet / Dry Paper (Fairly Liquid optional)

Okay here we go, for this I just used an old scrap piece of smoked acrylic that was doomed for the dustbin...

Cover up the material with masking tape to avoid scratching it, bit pointless in me doing it though since the material was already scrap.

Work out where you want the fan grill to go

Clamp it down onto the surface

Mark out the fan holes using a pencil

Join the 4 lines up like shown

Drill out the holes using an M4 or M5 drill bit.
I use an M4.2 bit if i'm using bolts or an M5 bit if i'm going to be using Fan Screws.

Bring out the 114mm Hole Saw

Using the middle hole as a pilot hole, drill through the acrylic with the hole saw. I recomend putting a piece of wood underneath the acrylic to prevent it from snapping.

Just needs tidying up now... grab some 600 grit wet/dry and sand out any teeth marks left by the hole saw.
If you want a perfect finish on the inside edge work all the way up to 1000 Grit and then Flame Polish it using a Butane Torch.

Fasten on the grill of your choosing, this is one of my own designs and i'm fastening it in place with M4 x 6mm Black Socket Head Bolts.

Hope this is easy enough to follow, if anyone spots any mistakes or ways to improve on it please let me know and i'll change it as required!

PS: Case Modding UK is my own personal site i'm working on at the minute, gonna be a big resource of information on modding & water cooling but it's still in development!

I refreshed my page and all the pics work great. Very Nice mod. If I actually had tools and some balls I would like to try some mods.

My only problem is I didn't want to drop the cash on a 4.5" hole saw. I used a 1.75" and my dremel. It is nowhere near as clean or easy, but hey.... Still a good guide.
