Help w/ CM690 top fan mod - Overclock.net

Okay Im stripping down the ole' case to finally set up how I wanted, and because I need those extra few degrees now that the ambient in my house is rising!!

Picture one you can see a small gap toawrd the back of the case (thats on the left). This is happening because I put a 120mm Fan there and now it is bulging out the mesh that I can't strap down properly

Picture two shows the fan through the mesh (looking down on the case, rear is to the left again)

Picture 3 is just inside, showing why... I want my TRUE mounted horizontally!

HOW DO I GET THE FREAKIN FAN TO FITZ MAN

You could always get a 25mm instead of a 38mm fan...
If it is a 38mm fan you're trying to use right now.
Or you could just mount the fan on the other side.

I would cut the fan grill holes out from the top of the case frame (not the plastic). Then use some cut foam as an insert where your fans are now, then mount the fans from the bottom of the actual case frame.

Thats my issue. they are 25mm.

Now you, my friend, are smart! Thanks, I will take this suggestion and implement it best I can, Any suggestions before I start shredding case frame?

You have obviously cut out the plastic slats, so I would just recommend a clean cut with a dremel tool if possible. As for the foam, you can use styro, or padding foam. Just spray the styro blask and give it a try first since it is cheap!

I have a TRUE mounted the same way and I have a pair of 120x25's on the inside of the case and they fit with no problemo at all. The only issue I have with them on the inside is that if you want to reseat your TRUE it is a HUGE pain to get to the top left screw but I figured out a way.

Holding the TRUE at the top use your other hand to place a spring screw in that upper left hole and get a screwdriver in it so you can place some pressure on the screw. This will help guide the screw down to the MB. If the bracket pin slides out of the center of the TRUE just let it until you get that screw started. Next screw is the upper right. Once you have these two started you can center the pin if need be and finish the bottom two screws. I have down to less than 5 minutes from opening the case to cleaning off old TIM with alcohol, reapplying, installing TRUE and case door back on and booting up.

I also have a MB with a NB sink like yours and there is room also to place a 60mm fan on it. I used 4" zip ties to keep it tight with the flow reversed so it is pulling off the sink and into the TRUE fins.

I stopped by the local automotive and hardware stores and I found nothing for foam

Im contemplating a mounting bracket that swivels to catch the fan by it's corners tho... It can work for me since I have the tools on hand!

I did the same with the NB heatsink before - I just didn't think to make the airflow the same way as the TRUE - Good thinking man!

I want my case to have easy access so I want this done right the first time around! I want the fans on the outer part of the case so I can work easily in there.

See, I plan on having fans on both sides of my TRUE, thats where my issues come from!

The reason being is I have very low CFM fans, and I love it - aside from having more fans, its dead silent, and has the same performance as having an 89CFM fan on it (I tested over 1 hour of load, I gained only 3*C by moving to dual low CFM fans) However 1 low CFM fan drastically kills performance by up to 10*C under load!
