I've on occasion used a MB box as a tech station; as long as the surface is non-conductive you're fine.

Do i have to sand the metal first? or can i just prime it right away?
also i am just doing many light coats instead of 1
so it cuts down the drying time.

the sanding is killing me so is taking the glue off

A light sanding is preferred. Doesnt have to be amazing or in every nook and cranny, just the majority. The primer just needs something to grip onto, the paint will then grip to the primer (with it sanded of course)

And yea, a few light coats are better than one thick one, you usually can avoid runs and drips that way too. Give ~10-20mins between coats.

Just a quick little helper post

Well next morning i wet my hands and rubbed the paper off

then added a thick coat of balck

as it was a thick coat it made a dripping effect, which i dont like
and even tho it was a thick coat it still had white dots which i dont understand the reason for this
its been an hour of drying and for some reason even when i press my finger on it it leaves my finger print
maybe its not fully dry(the print test is done on the parts which will be coverd by plastic anyway)

================================================== ========

so i carried on with the powersupply holder
this time i was more careful not to over spay it but i still did one coat till its jet black

================================================== ======================

came on Overclock.net and notced this thread
Antec P180/P182 Cable Mod Pictorial

and saw

and thought to my self this is wat they mean by many thing coats

so i need to spary it like this let it try spary it again let it dry then again
insted of making it jet balck in one go?

================================================== ======================

o any by the way had a lil accident :P

they didnt round down all the edges on the p182

karan.t- What kind of paint are you using? I've used some rustoleom one time that took almost 3 hours to set (before it wouldn't fingerprint). Some paints just have a long flash time (time that a coat dries to the touch + or - ), and also, you put on a -very- thick coat, which will increase time for it to dry.

Let that hdd tray dry for a day or so (where you put too much on and it 'ran' or 'sagged' and sand it back smooth to get those runs out.

Then go back and put LIGHT coats. Just like you linked in the pictures,you don't want to get it all the way black in one coat. You'll run it (like it did on you) many light coats will give a smoother, more even color and finish (generally).

You've got it down, but you botched on the first coat some,lol. Just resand it smooth and spray it again, lightly!

thanx

lateast i tried it on the hard drive tray first.

i am doing it like it should be done on the second hdd tray

i am using Plasti-Kote Gloss Black Metal Protekt Spray Paint 400ml
Quote:
Metal Protekt Paint
Quick and easy to use
Fast drying
Recoat anytime

Plasti-kote Metal Protekt can be used on both interior and exterior surfaces and gives long-lasting protection against rust and corrosion. Available in 9 colour finishes, Metal Protekt is ideal for giving a splash of colour to wrought iron gates or garden furniture and many other decorative projects.

DRYING TIME:

Allow to dry for 5 minutes between coats. Touch Dry in 10 - 20 minutes. Thoroughly dry in 30 - 40 minutes.

COVERAGE:

Approximately 2.23m²

APPLICATION TIPS:

Use only in well ventilated areas.

Ensure surface is clean and dry.

Three thin coats are recommended rather than one heavy coat.

Before applying spray on an inconspicuous area to ensure compatibility and suitability.

Special precautions should be taken during preparation of pre-1960 paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead.
If using on bare surfaces we recommend a Plasti-kote metal primer. For best results use Plasti-kote Metal Protekt Sealer (1300) as a top coat finish.
thanx that info helped alot

Hey, I noticed you're still struggling to get a perfect caseless computer going. What you can do is set your motherboard on the motherboard's box, and your just flip your hard drives.
