Another question
Is it safe (ie non cc destroying) to run a single CC from the inverter?

No problems running a single CCFL off a dual inverter; in fact, I've seen single CCFL kits that came with a dual-inverter.

Depends on the intensity of the LED's, i've got some 3mm LEDs that put a set of 12" cathodes to shame!

Hence I said generally; I was not saying that it wasn't possible for LEDs to be better, it all depends on type and application.
