Default Did it till I was "Black & Blue" Mod

Hello everyone in OCN land. I first just want to say that I am inspired buy the good guys and gals here. I built my first rig early this spring. In doing the research to build what I wanted I became hooked on these forums. Seeing all the really cool mods and advice given to people asking questions I decided to try a bit of modding myself. Not having the imagination or experience of some of the better modders I stuck with a fairly simple plan of action and name.
I love my A900 case, but the bare metal on the inside left something to be desired. So I went with trying to match the color of the Gigabyte blue of the motherboard for the inside except the area of the harddrive and front case fans which are going to be black. I bought a 1" hole drill for a few holes to help with cable managment too. Ill probably need a 24 pin extention before Im done.
heres the first steps: (the wife and kids freaked over the caseless setup, lol)

and the bare case, If found out how to get the top off by searching these forums.....thank you very much, I would have had no clue how to without breaking a few tabs.

Start of the painting:

All I can say is "Damn This Is Fun"!
only problem I think i might have is being to impatient and want to get it put back together to quick, but Im trying my best take my time.Wish me luck.

Yea, your doing good! Take your time and i will tell you it'll turn out alot better. I too on my first case paint i wanted/felt the need to speed things up and then you find things are not going the way you invisioned them. 3 to 4 coats in thin layers are better than 2 coats heavy. Lets see more pics as you go...

Nice work.
One lil' bit of advice. I suggest you do not run the motherboard on that anti-static bag. Anti-static bags are conductive (thats how they prevent ESD). And you don't really want to put your new mobo on anything conductive. It should be okay, but I wouldn't recommend it. If you have a layer of foam that came with the mobo, that would be fine, if not the box lid would be okay.

Hey, cool stuff so far. Are you using an airbrush or spray can to paint?

Thank you, I thought I should put it on it because thats what it came packed in, but what you say makes perftct sense. right after I read the post I shut it down and pulled it out so its on the foam pad.

Just using spray cans, primed it, shoot it with color (thre or four coats) then two or three of the clear.
The metal flake blue is a little trickier to get teven than the black was, kind of wishing now that did it all in black. But I think itll turn out ok. heres a couple of shots of the blue, it looks a little spotty because I just shot the third coat and its still wet and the lighting is a trouble light. Hopefully Ill get the clear on it tonight so it can cure overnight.

Did the side grill in the same blue, cant wait to get in back together!

After three days of working on this its all back together, and am I glad. It could have came out better, but hey it was a first for me, so Im happy. Had one hell of a scare this afternoon. After drying all night I brought it in and was thrilled with the way it was going back together. The holes I drilled lined up and looked pretty good. I couldnt find any rubber edge trim localy , so I improvised and used some clear gas line as small as I could find and slit evenly down one side and it worked pretty good. once I got it all put back together I went to fire it up and all I got was a quick spin on the fans for one second and that was all. I started checking all connections and all was good. So I took everything out of the case again and the same thing, no boot. After messing with it for quite awhile I thought I had fried the motherboard or something. I thought Id try one more thing and reset the CMOS jumper as a last resort. Presto it started and I was very relieved for the wife was giving me greef.
This Old man decided today to leave the modding to the big boys and just have fun playing games.
Heres a few last pics after I got it back up and running.

All in all Im happy with it. It could have came out a lot better in the hands of someone who paints often. sure was a fun experience. maybe Ill do it again someday.
