this would be bad, it will remove the copper's contact with air to cool itself

That would defeat the purpose of having it on there.

It would decrease performance at least a little bit, but I would try it on your stock heatsink if you still have it, just as a test.
test temps with it, remove it, clean it, paint it for 1-2 days (depends on your free time) maybe 5 coats of paint?, dry for a day or 2, then reseat it and record temps again ![]()

No i wouldn't I don't know exactly how this works though maybe a test on the stock wouldn't be a bad, but if someone knows for sure It would hit my cooling then why bother

the paint will act as a heat trapping shell on the surface of the fins, decreasing their ability to transfer the heat to the open air. It should almost definitely reduce the ability to cool the cpu. By how much, I have no idea, but the effect will be negative. Trying on a stock cpu is not a valid test since its efficiency isnt as high as the new cooler. Those results may be directly inverse to the results you get on the new hs. If you have the money to spare, buy a second duplicate cooler and try on the first one. If its bad replace it.

proably not as much but I think that might look ghetto and prolly will fade and get nasty pretty quick. Can you post a pic of what your trying to make black so we can make alternate suggestions?

have you considered radiator paint, i think this is designed to conduct heat better than normal paint, it will still reduce it's capacity though.
