Right now I jsut throw my case on my bed and carefully work away. Where is the best place to work, though?

i too do it on my bed but people will be silly and tell you that static is an issue and say thats bad. i say stick with whatever works and remember bad things only happen to people who worry.

Doing it on your bed is just fine.
If you are able to work comfortably there, and without any problems, why fix what ain't broke? I would only have a dedicated work area such as a table if building, modding and open-case tweaking are a daily event.

i also work on my bed, the good thing about it is that you wont break or scratch anything if you drop it

I usually do everything on a table where I have a lot of space and light, but bed is fine.

here's how i do it:
outside at nighttime, full moon required for adequate lighting, partly cloudy for dramatic effect... usually in the nude. but ya, anyplace is fine. i've got a work-table but that's just because i've always got something i'm tinkering with or working on. on another note, not having any clothing to rub against each other or the floor really cuts down on static...

All depends on how much room you have at your disposal and/or what you're doing. I recall soundx98 discussing painting his Antec 900 in the parking lot of the La Quinta Inn in Pleasant Prairie, WI.
