I personally would not use 1/8" acrylic to make a case; particularly if it has to have any structural strength. I built my own acrylic case out of 1/4" acrylic and it works very well (log linked in my sig)

DIY acrylic cases are certainly very doable, but must be well thought out prior to construction.
