Default [COMPLETE] Workshop Improvements - Building an additional table

Workshop Improvements - New Table

I had to take some time away from my current project, The Intelligence, to make some organizational improvements to my humble garage workshop. I was in desparate need of some more storage/table space. The day I struck gold in finding the table top pictured below (main work table) I also found a piece of finished wood that was 17" deep by 62 3/4" wide and 1" thick, with a nice curved front. I grabbed that up also that day because I knew it would come in handy one day - today was that day

First I went to home depot to get some goodies:
The large L brackets, casters, and bolts are for something else I am building this week, and I needed some all purpose cutting fluid and some masonry screws, and a aviation shears kit. The stuff I used today were the smaller L brackets and the two sizes of wood screws.

also I picked up 8 2x3's and a circular saw

thats the wood that I am using for the table top. don't mind the hole that was a holesaw test when I first got my holesaws

theres the spot for the new table, just to the right of my main work table

time to get to a cuttin', insert blade...

make-shift saw horses courtesy of empty cat litter pails

back portion of table frame taking shape

left leg and bracing

table frame complete

test fit. level on install, which is amazing considering the garage floor is pretty unlevel in some places. I think the guys that did the concrete were drinking that day, lol

table top in place but not screwed on yet

screwed down the table top using 2" screws (one in each corner) and started decluttering my little plastic table which had everything you see on the new table and whats left on the little table, all on the little table. It git to the point I could no longer work since I was spending time moving crap, just to get to something

so now my little relief table is just the tools I use most often, and the new table holds the stuff I dont need every second, but is available in a jiffy, without moving stacks of stuff around

Home depot didnt have the shelving in stock that we wanted so that will have to wait (improvemnts to the area left of my main work table) but one day this week (maybe tomr) I will build a dolly frame out of some more 2x3 and those casters in the first pic for my scroll saw station. That way when I am not using it I can turn it short side against a wall, then easily turn it out when I need to use it. Also my father in law works with wood and wood carving stuff, I can easily loan him the saw if he needs it - he's in the garage right next door

well thats all - thanks for watching

I especially like the small boom box on top of the large boom box. Nice touch.

I started with rough carpentry and framing etc when I was a kid (16 or so). I was always building something. My friends nick named me "joe wood" LOL.
