Case Modder

Ok im looking for likes of the greats on this one (CD Syr Repo... yea you guys)
Somone (not me, i dont know enough) should post a guide on the best tools to use. We have tons of scattered threads on the best spray paint, the best dremel... that kinda stuff but I know it would help us average joe's to have a nice guide on things like the best bimetal hole saws, best place to get acrylic online... Help us case modder noobs learn the basics on the best tools for the trade. I looked in our Sticky, nothing about tools, so thought it would be helpful if i mentioned something.

Heyah.
![]() Here is a thread that Spooky started that may have some of the answers. ...but a "technical how-to" would also be nice. Only problem is that in my 30 years of building things I have discovered that there is more than one way to skin a cat, additionally I have discovered that peeps will argue (bitterly and violently at times) about the efficacy of techniques and methods. Imho there is no superior, or better way (other than the obvious), but rather different peeps think and function differently. One ought to experiment to see what works best for them. For example, I love my Dremel. I cut all my holes (> 1/2") with it. Many laugh at me for doing this, but it works for me... ![]()

As Syrillian said, there are often many ways to achieve the same goal; some people may find one method or another better based on their skills and/or what tools they have available. A prime example of this is for cutting fan holes; a hole saw works quite well (as long as the material being cut is supported) but hole saws can be rather expensive, on the other hand, a Dremel circle cutter will achieve the same thing and is less expensive than a hole saw and can cut a lot of different hole sizes.

I ment it more as a "well this dremel is what i use because of ....". I know there are vast difference between hardware, now im not thinking of splitting hairs for like this drill is better cause for things like that there is a balance. But like this tooth count for acrylic, this speed for cutting metal, that type of thing that us mortals don't know.

Listing what types of tools would be appropriate for certain tasks and why would probably be doable. Wouldn't want to get into best brands for this kind of thread/guide since that's very subjective and opens a whole new can of worms.

Yea, but just like a guide for what is good for what, and what to use on specific materials. I know tons of people wonder about paints and such and there are guides for that, but the new case modder like myself has no idea what speed a blade should be going to cut acrylic without cracks.
