Default 8-pin AUX routing in the Rocketfish?

I have all the wiring routed in my 'fish except for that nasty 8-pin. I'm using a PC P&C Silencer and the 8-pin isn't long enough to make it behind the motherboard without an extension (which I have). The problem with the case is the VERY tight clearance from the mobo tray to the side panel. It's actually tighter than the width of the extension connector. Any other methods?

How long is your extension? You could run it up behind and under the motherboard.

I've checked the clearance on mine, and I could go behind the mobo tray with just a bit of cutting and drilling. As it is, I have mine going around the edge of the mobo (closest to the front) and it's "just" long enough, and it is harder now with the Rampage as they turned the 8 pin a different direction from the P5K I had.

Honestly, I'm drilling holes into my motherboard tray and using grommets. The PSU cables will all be behind the motherboard tray (go figure) so it's going to be interesting to see how much I can hide. I am going to have to make some interesting routing maneuvers in order to make it clean looking. I doubt I will even hide the 24-pin and just make it look really nice going up the side. I am using these http://www.gardnerbender.com/images/...ire_manage.jpg to make everything in the back uniform and straight, and that is what I'll use on the 24-pin. They come in black and are available at Home Depot.

Oh, and if you decide to do anything with the holes on the motherboard tray- They are M3 (metric). Don't make the mistake I did and buy M4, 6-32, etc. until trial-and-error had me at M3

Burn...use a nice aluminum cover for anything around the 24 pin.

Like this...

I was considering doing something like that- Although I don't have the metal fab tools and the actual aluminum available to me....I'll look into it.

Here's a REALLY easy panel to make:

Get a piece of aluminum, measure and cut with a simple jigsaw. Mark the holes and drill (only on the plate). Clamp plate on the motherboard tray and drill the corresponding holes on the motherboard tray. Get some 1" PVC standoffs from Home Depot and call it a day. Very easy, very strong, and very sleek.

As far as the 8-pin, I was thinking about making a small cut in the motherboard tray for the plug (remember I will be using an 8" extension) to have a low enough profile for the side panel to go on without a fight or with any bowing/flexing. Just what I've brainstormed so far...

Generally, if you run into an issue with the connector, you can file off part of the adapter (if that is causing the problem) to get that extra fraction of an inch. Don't do it on your power supply, else you'll void your warranty

Nice! I didn't even think of that. I'll have to take a look when I get home. Thanks!
