Default Painting my Antec 900

So ive been thinking of picking up an antec 900 and painting it white for a white/blue lights/black combo, and I was wondering what paint I should use. Should I go with spray paint? Which kind will look best? I also have a small system made for painting models that basically is a cheap airbrush made from a special nozzle which is mounted on a pressurized air can. Could I use this, and which paint should I go with?(model paint or some other kind that will work in an airbrush?) I want the job to look as close to professional as possible, while trying to keep the cost down.

Ok the antec 900 I got form newegg came in the mail today. I went down to murry's(auto parts) and scoped out some stuff and I have some questions:

1. What type of paint thinner do i need to remove the paint from the steel side panels?
2. What grit sandpaper should i use to sand it down?
3.(For people familiar with the antec 900): Are the side panels the only things that need to be stripped? They are the only painted steel on the case, minus the grilles which i am leaving black. The rest seems to be unpainted black plastic.

So this is my list of things I believe i need. Feel free to recommend more:
1. Paint thinner to remove paint
2. Sand paper to remove paint
3. Primer
4. Paint colors
5. Clear Coat (3M?)
6. Safety mask.

EDIT #2: Ok ive been reading every painting tutorial i can find on the net, and now i am wondering, should I at least sand the plastic a little bit even though it isnt painted and it is pretty smooth?

So If I will be painting half black and half white what color primer should i get?

You would go to an auto store and get automotive paint for a computer case!

Thats what I was thinking would look the best. How thick is automotive paint-at least compared to model paint? Is it expensive?

I found this stuff here. Its high grade automotive paint in aerosol form. They sell it with the intended purpose being to make touchups to cars. Its around $20 a can, and to choose a color you have to find the manufacturer's color code. Im doing some research for lotus/ferrari/lamborghini right now for some cool colors.

Any thoughts on this stuff?

I would prime it first to get the best finish. Get some blue painters tape as well.

OK first and foremost prepping is 90% of your paint job. You need to strip and or sand off the old paint or atleast get it down to a paintable surface. CLean with acetone or something similer (found at homedepot or similer for cheap). You need a very clean surface for the paint to adhere to. THis way it will go on even and last a very long time.

If bare metal then you will prime for sure. If over old paint that has been prepped you may not need to prime. Be sure to wet sand after the priming to get the primer to a good surface finish for the color. Once again clean the surface.

Now you can paint on the surface. Try and get a good wetsand between coats if you want cleaning each time. Do a few coats if you have the ability.

Few things= try and keep the dust and debris from getting on it. DONT TOUCH IT use some latex gloves and do not touch the work. If you do clean it with the acetone.

Try and paint at around 75F if possible. Allthough not completely necessary for every paint its a general rule of thumb for most paints to get a good even finish.

The crylon sold at most auto parts stores can get you a pretty good finish, and dont forget you can clear coat it also. One thing on the clearcoat, be sure to shake the can very very very well. WHen it says do it for 2min do it for 2min.

amen. that holds true not just for the Krylon clear but the primers and paints as well. And get a paint/pesticide respirator mask first and foremost

hey if you do use a base coat out of a spray bomb use the 3M brand of clear if you can find it.Its the most durable clear I have found..And a good way to get the dust off would be with tack rags. But if you use one DO NOT PRESS DOWN ON IT.. Just wipe it gentaly.. .. Just my .2cents.
