Default Antec 300 Drive Bay Mod

And by mod I mean removal:

Dropped my full load temps from 63C to 60C with all else held constant. I need to straighten out some of the areas where the rivets were a little more hesitant to come out, but it was a relatively straight-forward job. I only like to have one or two hard drives anyways. Should I change my mind I'll go NAS. Makes a nice spot for a radiator too!

Now if you can just clean up the wiring some, it will be awesome!

Looks good though, how long did it take you?

It took me about an hour and a half with simple hand tools(pliers, side-cutters, and an awl specifically). If I had to do it again, I'd definitely buy a drill. Snipping the butts off of the rivets proved to be a little tough in some areas. I'm going to clean up the wiring when I install the TPower i45 that's coming on Wednesday. I figure I'll trim a hole above and a hole beneath the mobo, to feed the cables begind. No water cooling right now, since I'll be sticking a lapped TRUE on the CPU when I install the new mobo. I was going to install a WC system instead of the TRUE, but I want to wait until there are a. 4870X2s on the market, b. blocks for the 4870x2, and c. potentially the new intel cpus

Ended up changhing things a bit since, and ended up returning the i45, but I cleaned up the cabling a bit. Shimming the front fans and cleaning up cables dropped my case temp another degree.

I should consider this, I have my HD mounted in the 5.25" bays.

That would probably help even more in the 690. I bet that sideways hard drive bay area slows air flow down quite a bit!

I was actually thinking of getting a 300 and moving the hdd bays apart by only a small amount so I could add rubber grommets in the holes to dampen hdd noise.

There might be room to move the inner side of the hdd bay in a bit. You'd need to drill new holes for the rivets in that location, but it would probably fit.
