I just picked up a CM Stacker 810 in addition to go with my first watercooling loop. I'm planning on extensively modding the case, and one of the mods I'm going to add is a CPU back plate hole, for easy access.
My question is, I'm going to be moving my current mobo to the case for the time being, and then once I can afford to upgrade, I'll be switching out almost the entire system, to an intel mobo, cpu, etc... all new shiny parts ![]() Should I wait until I get my new mobo to mod in a back plate hole? I'm concerned that the location will be different once I change mobos.

When in doubt....wait. Can always redo the measurements, not so easy to redo a hole.

typically the location of the CPU socket doesn't change between different motherboards since it's placement is defined my the ATX spec.

![]() Ah well... this mod project is going to take a very very long time either way. Especially since ALL of the tools I need are at my parents house, leaving the weekend the only time I'll be able to work on it. Short of bringing all the tools I need with me to college.

I always wanted to do that mod also, just havent had time. I have a p4 lga775 that runs a bit warm and I want to use that as the guinea pig. I was also thinking of having an intake fan blowing thru the side panel up thru the opening to the underside of the mobo, to see if affected temps of the cpu and NB at all
as far as the question, Id wait until I had all the stuff before cutting, even tho spec determines the spot, but thtats just me. makes sure not to cut out one of the standoff holes by accident ![]()
