Default heat shrink tubing...

hi all - i have quite possibly the coolest mod i have ever thought of in the makes right now...but it requires me to use some heatshrink tubing which i have no idea how to use!

this is the stuff that is wrapped around wires and stuff and looks clean right?

where do i get it? how do i use it? is it easy? any help from you electric technicians out there would help....thanks a bundle!

All it is, Is.. Well.. Its rubber? You just slip it over what you want to cover, Then once its in place just put a soldering Iron/Lighter (Soldering irons prevent the heatshrink from burning as there is no open flame making contact with it) and then it will tighten into place.

Its easy as hell to use, and you can buy it anywhere, HomeHardware, Canadian Tire (Don't know if they have them in U.S.A? LOL) radioshack, Maybe even the dollar store. As for how to use it, Put it on, Burn it, Leave. lol

Yeah, it's just rubber. It's the stuff that goes at the end of cable sleeves, just before the molex.

I would use a heat gun since lighters leave carbon deposits (aka, black burny stuff) on it.

now, if i use a lighter on black heatshrink, wouldn't it not matter if there are char marks or black marks?

from what i am gathering, it seems like the main thing to worry about is over-heating the stuff to a point where it can become brittle and stuff...

am i right in my thinking on these 2 things?

Just use a hair drier on it, works as well as a heat gun in my experiance.

I'd personaly like to do all my cables with heatshrink as aposed to the nylon cable sleeving you can buy. It'd be 100 times easier and look just as good in my opinion.

To buy the tubing in decent size lengths is a little difficult though, at least in the UK...

You can order online easily though.

http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=...Search+Froogle

The tubing will shrink down to a certain size and then not go any further, so you cant really go too far with it...
