No Problemo man; I know that acrylic isn't always cheap; and hardware stores typically only stock up to 1/4" thicknesses, anything larger they can sometimes special order

If the edge is 3/4" then I think it will be strong enough. Once properly fused with acrylic cement it will be like a single piece of plastic (stress on PROPERLY)

Well that was a pilot hole i was drilling but going in from the side is really hard to see if your going straight.

But i thought about the glue but i couldnt find it locally and idk how it will look.

So im going to have to order some acrylic online, then im thinking of using smaller screws so i dont have to go in as deep.

But atleast i live and learn right

Edit:

Ouch, i just looked online for 3/8" 2' X 2'. Is $58. Hmmmm im going to have to think about this long and hard..... Unless anyone has some spare acrylic sitting around i could pay for?
That's way out of line price wise (as Rado linked) And I do not think 3/8 will handle the 50 pounds of stress you are talking about.

when did i say i needed a plastic knife?
You should use a metal angle and through bolt both piecs using 1/4" diameter bolts.

Lowes sells angle. You should probably use steel but 1/8" thick aluminum 1-1/2" wide angle will work.

well the only reason i want acrylic is because the base needs to be see thru. Im going to stick a grid underneath because i will be using a force gauge to push the spring a set distance so find the amount of Newtons it takes to move the spring X distance. But since each spring is its own length, with in about 20-50cm. that is why i need it see thru.

And im thinking of placing two-three screws the original way i planned then using like the angles mentioned to reinforce it.

My next project btw is to make a custom stick out of black tinted acrylic and professional buttons, a stick as in what they use to play Fighters like Marvel vs Capcom 2...teken..street fighter... since he plays professionally

Well this is the start of my second try of cutting acrylic

Here it is all set up ready to cut with a makeshift weight aka fire extinguisher

Starting to cut

Well i tried to use Syrillians method of the dremel and the edge guide but since, my edges were not straight to begin with, so this happened......

Then i decided to free hand it

Pretty Straight for free hand

All the pieces cut and this is what it is going to look like, i decided to add some supports on the side cause i was thinking and Cyberdruid was right i needed more support.

Hey look ! it snowed in Arizona!

Cant work right with out some music!

Then came lunch time, but i was so eager to eat my awesome burrito all i had left was my pepsi....

Well since im doing all this work, while im at work , work at to intervene and had to put an order away weee. And fix 5 vacuums. yay!

Well drilling pilot holes, then trying to add the screw is really difficult since you get some build up of acrylic in the holes, so after drilling the normal size hole then going in with a smaller drill bit. But the acrylic is too strong!

Well i got three screws in with no trouble, and im going to add some sides like seen here, also you can see that the edges are not a perfect clean cut so tomorrow im going to be sanding for hours.....
