very cool. getting your hands on a sandblaster is tough... how much would it cost to get the entire case powder coated at a shop? (rough estimate)

You a prolly looking at about $70 on up depending on what all you want done.

and for the sand blaster, I'm sure that you have a discount tool store in your state somewhere that has them for less than $200. I gave $200 for the one that I have and I love it as I stated in another post.

Here is the page on Harbor Freight. The blaster that I have is now $250 but there are some table top blasters that you can get cheap. And if you can build out of aluminum or plastic, you just need the gun. You can build your own case and save a lot of money.

Great guide.

I guess it could work with cases if you de-rivet them right?
Or is it that you can't put it back together after you powder coat the pieces?

You can powdercoat either the entire case or you can take it apart. For me, I like the look of the rivets and I'm into dual coats. The thickness will not affect the case that much to matter when you put it back together. But, if you like the smooth look, the powder will cover up the rivets and smooth them out. Just don't forget to take all the paint off the case before you coating. Sticking it in the oven for 40 minutes at 400* will bake the paint and make it easier to get off. I'm getting ready to do my case to match the PSU and HDD cage. The Flat black paint that I sprayed it with is really easy to scratch so I have found out. And, I'm needing to drill some holes for some needed WM. I will post up all the pics and the process when I'm done to see what you all think.

I just found some pics of the first powdercoating job that I did. This is an intake for an LT1 for my camaro. I never got to put it on the car cause someone offered enough money that I let it go. Just thought I would share.

This is what I started out with. The car that this came out of was a 94 Z28 that somehow got a hole in the fuel line and caught fire. Not an easy job as you can clearly see in the pics. Please don't hate the dirty bench, I had a lot going on at that time

This is want it looked like after about an hour in the blasting booth with sillica sand.

And this is what it looks like with some gloss red and mirror black. The guy liked the pics so much that he wanted me to keep it and send it with the oil pan that he sent me to coat. I think it turnned out pretty good. I have another intake in the garage that I'm thinking about doing here in a few weeks, after the case that is
