Well, lets make it a sticky then, lol.

If anyone has any questions about the powder coating, just ask. I get bored on here.

Hi man, I have a question. I have a power supply I wish to coat but I do not want to remove the sticker. Is there a way to do this without
1. Burning the sticker off (possibly quick heat? Microwave?)
2. If so what would I use to cover it? I'm guessing I should cover it /spray then remove covering then heat?

I know it sounds stupid but I know there are microwaves that metal can be heated in so I'm bouncing this idea off you.

I'm also considering putting a Electric stove element in my Wood stove and using it for the curing process. What are your thoughts?

Also I have noticed that the gun you use looks like my sandblasting gun, So can I use my sandblasting gun for applying the coat?

This goes without saying but
1. If you can't afford to lose it don't mod or OC it.
2. At least read the OP before commenting.

humm, well as you know, if you put the case in a 400* oven for a while the sticker will be toast. You need to use a hair dryer or heat gun and gently peel it off where there is nothing but bare metal showing.

i'm also considering putting a electric stove element in my wood stove and using it for the curing process. What are your thoughts?

those are usally pretty small and for what you would pay for the element and the controller, you can get a used pos that the stove part doesn't work any longer but the oven works cheaper. It should be bigger and i think you will have more success at it. I know around here (i know, nothing but redneks, lol) i can get a pos for about $25 and they sometimes just give them away.

also i have noticed that the gun you use looks like my sandblasting gun, so can i use my sandblasting gun for applying the coat?

in a word, no. Unfortunately, the two have nothing in common. The sand blasting gun is high pressure and is made to shoot sand at a part for removal of whatever. The powder coating gun is low pressure (15psi) and has a metal rod inside that "charges" the powder with a + charge. The gun that is pictured in the first post is a 10kv gun but that one is about to go away for a 50kv gun. So, if you would like to wait for a bit, i can sell you this one for really cheap (after i get a few more reps) or you can get a new one for a bill.

Sounds good, Let me know. AFA the Wood stove. I have a large Franklin It's almost as big as a oven inside and I'm sure I can find an element around.

THX for the quick reply! BTW I pmed a mod to get this stickied.

How sweet would that be, lol. I am about to write up another How To for the case it's self. We will see how that one goes and probably put the two together somehow. And if your stove is that big, and you can get an element and thermostat cheap, go for it.

Damn dude, I should have created a post aswell. It is almost as if you copied me. Same gun, sandblaster, oven...cat. Lol, Check it out, I powder coated my old computer case.

That big grey compressor is for the sandbaster, I have a smaller 3 gallon one for the gun.

Also, you did an engine block, at least I think it was you... I did the same but in blue.

Lol, I was just checking out what people have been saying and there was a lot of confusion about powder. Almost no one understands that you can spray powder and make it look like paint.

My questions for the OP:

1. Is there any disadvantage to using a portable roll-about sandblaster as opposed to the booth? This is assuming there is access to some "wide open spaces".

2. How large of a case are you able to powdercoat with your setup?

3. What is the preferred media for aluminum and steel respectively?

1. There is no disadvantage at all. You just have to have the suit and like you said, a space to use it and where you don't care about the sand going every where. I have one of those as well for the jobs that I can't fit in my blast cabnet.

2. I know that I can do a mid tower but I'm not sure about the full towers yet. I have a post in another thread trying to get the dimentions of the larger cases to see if I will need to buile a larger oven.

3. I use silica sand. The sand has really sharp edges but it will not do as much damage as regular sand will. Aluminum Oxide is a really good media if you want to pay for it. And, I use the Silica sand on everything from aluminum to cast iron, to steel.

I agree with the sand. The nice thing about my dad's job is that he is a field engineer at a bakery equipment company. So I can take my parts there and use bigger sand blasters and industrial ovens. That sandblaster we got, my dad got it for 28 cents. They were getting new ones so my dad asked how much they said they would sell it for. They said give them what he had in his pocket.
