Greetings folks,
__________________I've noticed that my GTX 260 fan doesn't really move a whole lot of air, and I've been thinking of a way to improve its cooling without adding an aftermarket cooler. I came up with the idea to mount a fan on the bottom of my case blowing directly up into the intake of the GPU. So today I went out and picked up a cheap 80mm fan and the tools I would need to bring my idea to life. However, before I start cutting apart my case for the first time EVAR, I thought I'd run the idea by you folks for some opinions. There are some photos below that give you an idea of what I'm looking to do. The only thing missing is the only thing I couldn't find - clear 3" flexible tubing. I'd like to use that to pipe the air from underneath the case directly into the GPU intake. There's about 3/8" clearance beneath my case. ![]() ![]() Thank you all for taking the time to help out with this minor project! From initial idea to finished product in 3 days! Here's how it looks now that it's finished. ![]() ![]() Here's linkage to my "worklog," for lack of a better descriptor! Final Temps were reduced 11C while running the Folding@Home GPU Client on my overclocked GTX 260 Core 216! http://www.overclock.net/case-mods-g...ml#post5211345

Why is it smoking?

That would probably help quite a bit. Another option would be to get a slot cooler, but then you would be pulling air in from the back (generally a bad idea). You don't really even need a duct as long as the case sits far enough from the desk/floor to allow air to flow underneath. My wife's computer has a fan at the bottom in almost the same position, and in order to allow proper airflow (it sits on carpet) I had to set the case on a couple of bricks.

I think you should buy some bigger case feet. Make it so the computer sits higher to allow for some decent airflow from underneath. also, do you plan to use a holesaw?

My case is sitting on solid wood on top of a shelf, because I don't want to worry about dust and static if it's on the carpet. I could cut a hole through the bottom of the wood to allow more air to get in. And yes, I have a 3" hole saw, newly purchased today.

How tall are the feet on your case? Since it's sitting on wood, you may not have to cut up the shelf.

I've got about 3/8" clearance underneath the case. A standard CD jewel case slides under easily. I was hoping that would be enough room, but it would be easy enough to slice up the sheet of wood.

Maybe a duct from fan>gpu fan? Should help it from mixing with warm air already in the case, which is the point of this project I assume.

That's why I was hoping to find some clear 3" tubing, because it would direct the airflow from the fan straight into the GPU intake. Problem is, I can't find any.

Look up EuroFix's Firefight Mod and make your own like he did. He took some acrylic and put it in the oven and custom made some beautiful ducts that way.
Seriously go check it out, it may well be the best option for you. Plus you'll have the satisfaction of having done it yourself, and it'll give you some mad bragging rights here as well as to your friends.

try stickin a vacum hose onto the card and suckin all the dust out. or u can just increase fan speed in riva tuner.
i don think the 80mm fan would help ur gpu cooling o.o
