I was just wondering if I can replace this duct with a fan, or if it really helps cool anything. (I don't have this case yet, Newegg doesn't tell anything about it so I don't know the size of it....)

You can incert a fan between the side cover and that duct to help blow fresh air on the FHS! It's alittle bit of a pain to play with the power wire when ever you remove the side!

It's a required thermal component for intel prescott cpu's. Remove it and mount a blower fan. I've done it in the past and it works fine.
