I was wondering if anybody knew of a site somewhere that has a tutorial on a technique to paint wood to look like medieval armor or any sort of grayish/bluish looking metal.

I think you could get by with a perfect sanding job. Then several coats of primer. Then wet sand the primer to get rid of any lumps. Then go for the mest silver paint you can find. Also give it several coats of gloss. Maybe add some rivets around the edges and paint on some rust.

Yeah i know how to get the paint to look smooth but i wanted to give it a look like battle worn armor not aging rusted armor. You know that has different shades and hues to it but still looks clean. Great idea on the rivets though im going to do that thanks.

I would recomend taking an axe to the wood and maybe throw a brick at it and then paint it and paint the worn edges rusty

im not sure on this so dont qoute me. i dont think u can achieve that color with wood maybe with fiber glass u can get that color, that appears to be a metallic blue and airbrushed with silver. as for that white in the middle of the armor that appeaars to be a reflection on camera flash due to its CLEAR COAT
and ohh yeah Full Metal Alchemist!!!! wooohooo if i can only transmutate my 939 3000+ to a 939 san diego, that will be cool lol

Get a piece of wood, and test my method: (depending on the wood you use, you could skip step one)
__________________1. spray a layer of clear spraypaint, or simply the color you want. 2. start working on the strength of that spraypaint, coat a thin layer, and wait for a while 3. repeat step 2 untill you can't tell it's wood anymore (the surface will be quite smooth) 4. go to auto store, get metallic paint, they are kind of glossy and have a metal look 5. spray a layer of that, and perhaps another layer of clear paint. To creat that "rust" effect, try normal (non-metal) silver, add a bit of copper color if you're using air brush

Wal-Mart has great metallic paints by Krylon, I was surprised to see how well they came out, Lots of coats but looks like metal.
