Default mounting a fan controller thru top of case

Has anyone tried to mount a fan controller thru the top of a case. I will add pics a bit later as to where I intend to try it. My problem is that I don't have any free bays in my thermaltake armor (hold laughter please, I know it has 11 bays). I was thinking of finding a controller with removable knobs (with the stem extending out a bit) drill matching holes in the top of my case, position the controller from inside and bolt it in place (drill down and use two black screws to hold it) and re-attach knobs.

Any suggestions as to why this won't work? (Other than the fact that the stacker cage I have will have to have the top of it cut off in order to get at the case itself. )

does anyone know of a fan controller similar to this one that can control 8 fans?

If i may ask what could you possibly have that takes up 11 bays.

Why don't you go another step and mount it out the side? So l33t!

I think it would look good if you can be neat with it. No problems that I can see

Timsvpr, look at my rig. I know, I know, I have enough fans to suck the paint off my walls, but I have 3 120mm fans (9 bays), my dvd-rw, and my controll panel with card reader.

Muffin, good idea! I was wondering how to take apart my stacker cage (and keep it working) that might just work.

I have it "mounted" *cough* outside the case. No more bays left , have to leave the case open at all time. But aside from that, it really looks very professional. "Wow, he has modded his computer, so that there are coming all kinds of wires from the inside, he must be from another world, so great!"

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one with excessive bay traffic!

If you want to mount the FAN controller in the top here is what you need to do.

STEP 1: Make an outline of the area the controller will occupy.
STEP 2: follow the image that I attached, Cut the red lines.
STEP 3: bend metal inside case
STEP 4: find where the holes need to be in the metal.
STEP 5: drill holes
STEP 6: Mount controller

Sorry about the insane bmp size
I couldnt save with the red for some reason....

Thanks spooked. I'm probably going to do it through the off side of the case as the coolermaster stacker cage in my top three bays has a steel roof. Too much metal to hack through (and the fan controller rods are too short). I'll follow your advice to mount it. The off side of my case is facing open space anyhow, so it should work.

Thats a good way to provide mount brackets for the controller rather than drilling more holes in the side (or glueing yikes)
