Default Sonata 2 cooling

I have an Antec Sonata 2, and it's pretty nice and very quiet. But I'm not getting the cooling I need from the case. Right now, I'm running 40 idle and 49 load, which isn't too bad, but I was playing around the other day and noticed that when I take the side cover off the case it drops another 2 degrees, and pulling it out from under my desk (better circulation) dropped it another 2 degrees. If I can keep that 4 degree drop, I can increase my voltage to get my cpu to the 2.4-2.5 GHz range, which would be nice.

So I'm wondering how I could best mod the case without screwing up the nice looks?

I think the biggest problem is that the front intake fan is mounted behind the harddrives instead of in the very front of the case. I have 4 drives, which are blocking the fan even more.

I'm thinking about mounting an intake fan in the side to blow on the CPU fan. Could I just drill a bunch of 3/8" holes for the intake, or do I need to cut out a hole the size of the fan?

Also, there are a bunch of vent holes on the bottom rear of the case. Those are used as intakes if you use their duct system, which I don't (won't fit with the XP90). I'm wondering if I might be losing some of my cool air from these holes, before it can make it's way up to the CPU. What would be the best way to plug these?

Sellotape.

Its best to use a hole-saw, purely for neatness. Even the most steady-handed person can't make a perfcect circle. You can use a rotary cutter or even a jigsaw (maybe not for an 80mm hole).

OK, so I should make one big hole instead of a bunch of small holes? I have a dremel with a circle cutter, so that should be no problem. I just want to keep it neat looking, since this is a very nice looking case.

What is Sellotape, and where do I get it? Do you mean regular cellophane tape, like packing tape?

Thx.

Just like normal packing tape. Sellotape, maybe you don't have it in the USA. Its about an inch wide and is clear or smoky coloured plastic. Used on simple paper sticking jobs. I just suggested it because its clear, it might not last long because of heat and weathering though. Parcel tape, electrical tape, duck tape whatever
